CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao – Firefight between the troops of 64th Division Reconnaisance Company, 6ID and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) erupted at Sitio Perez, Brgy Maitumaig, Datu Unsay, Maguindnao early evening of January 6, 2018.
The firefight transpired at around 7:23 in the evening with more or less 50 fully armed men while the troops were conducting security operations in the area.
One government troop was wounded and 1 killed in action in the clash while five body counts in the BIFF bandits. More BIFF members are believed to have been killed and wounded as the troop continue to pursue the fleeing bandits.
Also recovered in the area where dead BIFF combatants were found were 4 highpowered firearms and improvised explosive devices.
Air and artillery fire mission was conducted towards enemy position to support the engaged troops.
“The BIFF conducted their retaliations and diversionary tactics during the yuletide season targetting civilian populace amidst of our sustained focused military operation that gains substancial result,” 6ID Commander Major General Arnel Dela Vega said.
The Kampilan soldiers had been vigilantly guarding the entire Central Mindanao since the start of the yuletide season to ensure the safety and security of the community as the lawless group had been historically conducting atrocities.
