Camp Siongco, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao - On July 05, 2014, Saturday, the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division led by Brig General Edmundo R. Pangilinan held an interfaith religious service at the Officers’ Club House as part of the thanksgiving and guidance for the troops. The service was jointly officiated by Rev Fr. Elmer dela Cruz of the Diocese of Cotabato, Rev Pastor Danny P. Vergara of Jesus is Lord Church, Division Imam Cpt Mujib Ladjabuan, and OIC Division Chaplain Cpt Jolly Gemal. The message of the religious ministers focused on the worthiness of peace, thanksgiving and orienting one’s values in the service of God. Brig General Pangilinan, in his 6 weeks as Commander of 6ID, expressed his deepest gratitude to the Lord for all the achievements and accomplishments of 6ID. Among these were the recent seizure of IED (improvised explosive device) factory of notorious terrorist-bomber Basit Usman that disabled the group in conducting terror attacks and the safe conduct of defense of a detachment in Reina Regente from the harassments of the BIFF bandits leaving minimal casualty on the government forces. “We are not talking about religion, we are not talking about religious belief and we have invited pastor and priest to provide intercession with God, what we need is a direct connection with God,” he said. Before the service concluded, the 6ID Commander appealed to all the attendees (soldiers and dependents) to pray for the Kampilan troopers for their safety, guidance and blessings and to celebrate their religious differences as one family.
