Camp Siongco, Awang, DOS, Maguindanao – In support to the greening program of the national government, the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division conducted a tree planting activity on August 09, 2014 at 9:00 in the morning at the watershed area of Upper Dimapatoy, Brgy. Awang, DOS, Maguindanao. 6ID Commander Brigadier General Edmundo R. Pangilinan led the group for a four (4) kilometer foot march prior to the activity. It was participated by the people from different walks of life – local government units, MNLF led by Muslimin Chairman Sema himself, ARMM HEART Director Ramil Masukat of RDRRMO ARMM, Recon Rock of Cotabato City, MCWD personnel and dependents and members of the media. Partner stakeholder from NCIP (National Commission on Indigenous Peoples) and IPDEV (Recognition of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in the ARMM for their Empowerment and Sustainable Development) have also partnered with 6ID as a part of the celebration of International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. A total of three thousand (3,000) seedlings of Antipolo tree were planted. BGen Pangilinan said that this fruitful activity will surely benefit our children’s children. “The involvement of all stakeholders clearly shows their support and love to the environment, love to the nature and love to the mother earth”. The 6ID shall continue to conduct and support similar activities wherever and whenever possible, he concluded.
