Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat - The 601st Infantry (Unifier) Brigade under the leadership of Brig General Edmund R. Pangilinan warmly welcomed AFP Chief of Staff General Emmanuel T. Bautista, as he visited its Headquarters on February 10, 2014 for the second time. Accompanying him are WESMINCOM Commander Lt. General Rustico O. Guerrero, 6ID Commander Maj General Romeo L. Gapuz, and other AFP General Staff.
Highlighting his visit was the awarding of the deserving Unifier Troops following the successful law enforcement operations dubbed as “Operation Darkhorse” against the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) on January 26-31, 2014.
The operation resulted in the neutralization of known BIFF personalities of which 52 were killed and others were wounded. Several materiel and subversive documents were also recovered from the said operation.
Operation Darkhorse also resulted in the capture of BIFF camps and IED factory in Reina Regente Complex at Barangay Ganta, Shraiff Saydona Mustapha, Maguindanao.
During the momentous ceremony, General Bautista recognized and commended Brig General Pangilinan and his men who valiantly fought during the conduct of operations against the lawless armed group of Ameril Umbra Katu and for continuously winning the peace in their area of jurisdiction.
